How we worked it out

We used 175,080 prices across 2,969 different routes. We kept only the routes with at least 20 prices, spread over at least 5 days of the week. That filter earns its keep: without it, the result would tell you which routes happened to be in the pile, not how much the day matters. Then we compared every price with what that same route normally costs, so an expensive route can't make the day it shows up on look expensive.

Why it happens

Fewer people travel midweek. Holidaymakers leave on Friday or Saturday, and people working move on Monday and come back on Friday. Less demand, lower prices. Moving your departure by one day is still the biggest saving there is, much bigger than hunting for the right site to book on.
